Every now and then

a program comes along that

makes your job as a

pastor or leader easier

Stafftool is one of those programs.

Keeping track of phone numbers and emails is almost impossible for a church. Keeping track of all of the events, birthdays, programs and groups in the church is exhausting. Having to constantly pass this information on to everyone can be frustrating, and keeping it up to date with your computer, the church computer, other ministry leaders and your cell phone seems like the impossible dream. Until now.

Whether you are a small church with no offices (like ours) or a large church with many offices, keeping everyone up to date can be a challenge. Our need was for people who lived in different towns to be able to help us enter information and also access that information for groups and ministries that they lead. We also have both mac and pc users on our leadership team and needed an application that both could access. The only solution we could find was to look for a program that was web-based….

Fall Super Cluster Gatherings

Our Annual Come Together is coming closer to you this Fall. Instead of the one conference at Word of Life this year we will host four conferences in strategic locations throughout our region. Plans are underway for these one-day events designed for Pastors, their leadership teams and their spouses. More details will be coming soon.

New President of CBMNE

At a recent Executive Board Meeting Dr. Roger Haber was elected as the new president and chairman of CB Mission Northeast. He succeeds Dr. Bert Vitaliz who has faithfully served in that role for the past 6 years.

Dr. Roger Haber has been the senior pastor of Central Baptist Church in Middleborough for the past six years.

He received his B. A. from Stony Brook University on Long Island. He received his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and his D.Min. from Northern Seminary.

In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Roger also began teaching at the New England campus of Bethel Seminary of the East this past year. Every other year he teaches hermeneutics at the Minsk Bible College in Belarus. He also serves on the board of Koinonia House National Ministries, a post-prison ministry headquartered in Wheaton, IL.

Roger has been married for almost 25 years to Nanci. They have two sons, Timothy, who is completing his junior year in college and Jeremy, who is completing his junior year in high school. They have one dog, Waldo, who hasn't even completed obedience school.

Pastor Harry Egner entered Glory

Rev. Harry R. Egner passed into glory this past Friday night at about 10:30. His pastoral ministry included the Huntington Street Baptist Church in New London, CT, The Baptist Temple in Fall River, MA, as well as CB churches in several other states. He also served on the boards of World Venture (CBFMS), Denver Seminary, and on the feasibility committee for the Seminary of the East.

Dr. Tony Gibson, CT(203) cluster leader, said that Pastor Egner’s “health has been failing for some time and he was not able to eat recently.  He was not in any pain and went home to the Lord quietly to join his dear wife Ruth. He was a faithful laborer in the CB Movement from its beginning….”

There will be a memorial service this coming Thursday (5/22) at 7 PM at the Chapel at Elim Gardens in Cheshire CT. He has lived there in the retirement facility since 1999, and faithfully served as Assistant to the Chaplain.

CBA Summer Leadership Summit - The Value of Assessment

Good leaders understand what James Thurber meant when he said, “It is better to ask some of the questions than to know all the answers.” Wise leaders ask the right people the right questions and take their answers into account. The “right people” are your church’s members, attendees and visitors.

The fear of “hearing something” you don’t want to hear is no match for the pain of discovering the truth when its too late to do anything about it.

A comprehensive assessment provides churches with the information and insights necessary for effective leadership. You get input from “everyone” not just the loud and the unhappy. You can plan for the future more effectively since you clearly understand the “now.” You benefit from the interpretation, experience and input of a team of experienced and impartial consultants.

The seven regions of CBA have agreed together to have Dr. Bill Hoyt serve as a guide and mentor in selecting and training coaches to assess congregations throughout our regions toward health and effectiveness. Dr. Hoyt is the President of NexStep Coaching and Consulting. He is a graduate of Wheaton College and Bethel Seminary, and is a respected leader of leaders. He has worked with Dr. Paul Borden to train the leaders who helped to facilitate the turnaround of scores of churches in Northern California.

Pastor Nick Lillo, Centennial Community Church in Littleton, CO said: “Bill Hoyt and NexStep Consulting have had a significant impact on our ministry at Centennial. The church assessment was pivotal for us renewing our vision as a church and regaining a clear picture of what God is calling us to as His people in this place.”

If you are interested in this training or know another pastor who you would recommend, contact Randy Keeley ASAP! This is a great opportunity to help move our association along to greater health and effectiveness.

Below is Dr. Hoyt’s criteria for attending the summit:

  • First, a participant needs to be a leader in a growing church.
  • Second, a participant must be a listener, slow to speak and quick to discern, tuning into what people are saying.
  • Third, a participant should be a system thinker, although this is not an absolute requirement.

The Summit begins Wednesday evening, July 23rd and concludes by noon on Friday, the 25th. For more details on the Summit click this link: Summer Summit.
