The Promise of New Life!

One of the things I love about Spring is the promise it brings of better things to come! As my wife and I surveyed our yard yesterday in the wonderful 62° temperature, I noticed the very first shoots of our flower bulbs breaking through the soil. The Giver of Life is not only at work in His creation, but also in our churches and in our regional association. This Synergy shares the story of God at work in churches sharing the promise of new life. As we celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the promise of new life, drop me a note to share what God is doing to bring new life in your church!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3 NIV

New Life at CORE Church!

We are utterly amazed by God’s faithfulness as we press on in this Great Commission work in the inner-city of Troy NY, writes Pastor David Lewis. The Lord opened a tremendous door for ministry at Christmas. We partnered with the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, NY to provide 238 children from 81 families with toys for Christmas. On Dec. 10th & 16th the CORE Church

became a toy store where needy families from our neighborhood came to pick out presents for their children. We provided a wrapping station, crafts for kids & refreshments. We were able to have many conversations with people about the greatest Gift of all!

This north central neighborhood is the most distressed district within the city of Troy, NY. There is much talk of revitalizing this part of our city. Our church is blessed to be part of this neighborhood when other churches & businesses are closing. It is our hope that we can reach out to lost and broken people & restore them, while the city of Troy endeavors to restore both the landscape & economic picture for our community.

Several outreach events are planned in April, including a missions team from West Lebanon Baptist Church in West Lebanon. This team of teens and adults led by their pastor, Eric Ramage, will come to Troy to serve with us in reaching out to our community. Please pray with us for these outreach events. Also pray for the addition of a food pantry in our church, the provision of finances and labor for the continued remodeling of our facilities, and for the efforts to raise the financial support of Pastor Lewis and his family through Mission to the Americas.

200 Years Old – ALIVE & Well!

If you’re looking for churches with over 1,000 in attendance in the Northeast, East Auburn, Maine with a population of 23,586 might not make your list. Trying to find a parking spot on Sunday morning at East Auburn Baptist Church however tells you something is happening here. This church is in the midst of a year-long celebration of what the Lord has done and is doing in their 200 year old church. Over a thousand people gather in five weekend services to worship the Lord and to seek His direction for their lives.

On the church’s 200th birthday, Pastor Roger Cousineau challenged the church to reach the next generation for Christ in his message from Judges 2:7, 10 “The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel…. After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.”

Pastor Cousineau said: “Here is my concern, I am thankful for our history. I am amazed at the way in which God has manifested himself in the present. This next generation that came [after Joshua] did not know the Lord. They failed to have intimacy of relationship, communion, and fellowship. They failed to embrace and know of the God of their fathers.

It is important to know what God has done. It is important to know what God is presently doing. So many churches of history like ours have little of what God is presently doing. They only have a past. They only can talk about the glorious past. It is important to learn and glean from the past. It is important that we move beyond just that – to have a personal testimony of a dynamic relationship with God – “a present tense”.

The church is planning to move into a new facility in December on the 100 acres they own on Park Avenue. Pastor Cousineau said: “We are building this ministry with future generations in mind – with my grandson Brandon, in mind. We are not building buildings just to maintain the present, or to make us comfortable. We are looking at the future. As we talk about building this ministry we want to give testimony not just to what God has done, but we want to give testimony to what He is presently doing.”

“I love our church of history. It magnifies the incredibleness of God. How God has taken a 200 year old church in New England and do what He is doing – a church that is limited by finances and space. This is a visible expression of what [Jesus said], “I am going to build my church”. 2000 years later His life is still impacting

our lives in a dynamic and personal and powerful way. If He isn’t impacting your life in this way, all you have is leftovers from another generation’s experience. We need to be able to say this is what He is doing now!”
